Developmental Edit or Story Coaching:

This edit is for manuscripts that are:

too long or too short, feel out of order or inconsistent. I'll weigh in  on plot, characterization, pace, structure, and more. This edit does not include a copy or line edit. It does include notes in the manuscript and an editorial letter as well as feedback via email, phone, or video chat.

ABOUT ME

I've been where you are right now, sitting in front of a piece of work that you have poured your heart and soul into. I know the struggle of finding the right editor for your work and losing sleep over the hefty price tag to do so. Trust me; I get it.

A Creative Writing graduate from SNHU, I self-published my first novel in 2016. I'm also a high school English teacher.

My expertise is best paired with Young Adult, Romance, and Contemporary fiction. That doesn't mean other genres are out of the question. Email me, and let's figure it out.

"I’ve been writing in various formats for over 20 years, but had never had any of my fiction professionally edited until I worked with Jessica. She had just the right mix of expertise and friendliness to steer me in the right direction without it feeling like harsh critique. Her knowledge of the technical side of writing is astounding and really helped when it came to correcting all those little avenues one misses when just trying to get the story on the page. Her guidance with the story telling was also invaluable to me, as her notes provided clear and insightful commentary from the point of view of an impartial reader. Even as I work through multiple drafts of this story, I am still referencing Jessica’s notes to help guide me in my re-writes. I was so thrilled I got to have her input on this project and I can’t wait to work with her again!"

-Jessica Berson, author of The Melancholy Girl

I was tasked with writing an article for a technology industry journal, which is published quarterly. I wrote what I thought was a fairly good composition. I requested the help of Jessica Bucher to review and edit my work. She did a thorough job and made some great suggestions. With her help, I was able to submit a polished piece of work.

As a new author, I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into trying to write a women's fiction, let alone a women's fiction set in the world of pro cycling. I made the HUGE mistake of not having an editor the first go-around in selfpub, and I wasn't about to make the same mistake again. I had hired another editor, but our, erm, personalities didn't mesh well. In walks Jessica, like a breath of fresh air. She took on my unwieldy novel at well over 190k words and with a gentle hand and a sense of humor, encouraged me to keep cutting the fluff, rework a few things and poof! Wheeler has become a svelt climber of women's fiction mountains instead of a Clydesdale plodding the fields of trash. Thank you, Jessica.

Testimonials

Jessica was so easy to work with. She was super responsive, timely, kept me updated along the way, and provided very thoughtful feedback and editing. She also gave me the confidence and encouragement I needed to move forward with publishing my book. I'm only sorry I discovered her so late in the process. Next time I'll work with her from beginning to end.
